Frequently Asked Questions
An alcohol interlock device is a handheld breathalyzer device that is installed in a motor vehicle. The device measures Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC) which is the amount of alcohol found in the user’s breath. These devices are connected to the vehicle’s ignition to prevent a person from starting and driving a vehicle if it detects the presence of alcohol.
The LifeSafer L250 is the one of the smallest interlock devices on the market and the easiest to use. With an intuitive screen and simple blow pattern, users can test and begin driving quickly. The LifeSafer alcohol interlock is also backed with the most reliable fuel cell technology, so drivers can be confident they are getting accurate readings.
LifeSafer has also been an industry leader for over 30 years, providing the highest-quality customer service and certified installation and device experts.
An alcohol interlock device is installed into a motor vehicle and connected to the ignition. When a driver wants to start the vehicle, they are required to submit a breath test into the device. If the driver passes the breath test, they will be able to start the vehicle normally. If the device senses the presence of alcohol in the breath, the driver will not be able to start the vehicle.
Failed breath tests may result in a temporary lockout period before a driver can submit a retest. Multiple breath test failures may result in a permanent lockout in which the device requires a service provider code to restore the device and vehicle functionality.
The breath alcohol threshold can be determined by the distributor and programmed into the device, as well as the lockout periods, making the sanctions somewhat customizable.
LifeSafer has certified alcohol interlock installers across Europe, making device installation quick and easy. Contact us today to learn more about the installation process.
